October put more of the map within reach. Teams can now ask about utilities directly from Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, and other AI tools with the new 4M Data MCP, and Foundation Data has gone live in West Virginia, New Jersey, and Nevada. Here’s what’s new.
4M Data MCP: Ask About Utilities From the AI Tools You Already Use
Answering a quick utility question is now easier and more accessible than ever. The 4M Data MCP connects 4M’s utility data directly to Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, Cursor, VS Code, and any AI tool that supports remote MCP servers.
Ask about an address, a road segment, or a project boundary in plain language, and get back:
- Utility owners by sector - electric, gas, communication, water, and wastewater
- Right-of-way exposure - how much line sits inside vs. outside the estimated ROW
- Crossings - flagged as safety or environmental risks
- A written risk summary - what to watch for in the area
Inside your 4M projects, you get the full analysis. Outside them, you get a risk summary, and you can ask your AI tool to create a 4M project for the area when it’s worth a closer look. From there, keep going in the same conversation: turn the owner list into a table, compare two corridor options, or draft an outreach email.
Why it matters: Teams can screen a site or corridor for utility risk in seconds, right where they’re already writing, planning, and building, without waiting on an export or a project setup.
Admins can turn on the 4M Data MCP by reaching out to their account manager. Existing 4M customers can use it free from Nov 4 through Dec 31, 2026.
Foundation Data is Now Live in West Virginia, New Jersey and Nevada
Two more states just joined the map: 4M’s Foundation Data is now live in West Virginia, New Jersey, and Nevada. Teams in all three states get instant, reliable utility data to work from day one.
This keeps 4M on track to become the first and only utility data platform with nationwide coverage by the end of 2026. Every state added means more teams working from the same up-to-date picture of what’s above and below ground. See the map below for the current mapped states in gold.

See you next month
October was about reach: utility answers inside the AI tools your team already uses, and three more states where projects start with utility data in place.
