June was a single but significant release: DGN export is now available, rounding out 4M's CAD Auto Generation offering and completing the format trifecta that AEC and DOT workflows depend on. Here's what's new.

New Features and Updates

CAD Auto Generation: DGN Export Now Available for MicroStation and Bentley Workflows

4M's CAD Auto Generation already supported DWG and DXF. Now DGN is here — the standard format for 48 of 50 DOT environments and the native format for MicroStation and Bentley workflows.

With DGN now available, teams delivering to state DOTs can generate a standards-compliant CAD file directly from their 4M project, with layer standards, line weights, symbology, and coordinate systems applied automatically. No manual conversion, no CAD tech required.

All three formats are available to any account with the CAD add-on enabled:

  • DWG — AutoCAD native, includes Civil 3D and Map 3D scripts
  • DXF — Cross-platform CAD compatibility across tools and firms
  • DGN — MicroStation / Bentley, the standard for DOT deliverables

To export, open any project with the CAD add-on enabled and use the Download button to select your format.

Learn more about how to export your 4M project as a CAD file and upload it to Autodesk or Bentley.

See you next month

DGN availability closes the loop on CAD Auto Generation, meaning no matter what environment your team or your client is working in, 4M can deliver utility data in the format that's ready to use. If you have questions about enabling the CAD add-on on your account, reach out to your Customer Success Manager or visit our help center for step-by-step guidance.
